History of Wildwood Quality Cleaners

Wildwood Quality Cleaners was started in 1980 by Kenneth McElroy. Ken originally operated a general store in the building where the dry cleaners is now. At the time, the dry cleaners across the street (the current location of Adorn on Main) went out of business and Ken saw an opportunity to start a new adventure. He began the business with 2 employees, himself and Janie Fogle. Janie ended up working for the business for more than 30 years. On Ken’s unexpected death in 1984, his widow, Gail, kept the dry cleaners operating while also working a full time job. Ken and Gail had four children, a daughter, Angela, twins Greg and Craig, and son Chivas. All of the children have worked in the dry cleaners in some capacity. When Greg graduated from the University of Florida in 1986, he came home to Wildwood and took over the business.

Under his direction, Wildwood Quality Cleaners has thrived. Greg has always run the business by the golden rule. He treats customers as he would like to be treated. Greg married Teresa in 1987 and their three children, Kaylee, Joshua, and Caleb, have all also worked in the business. Currently, Joshua is assistant manager. He is the third generation McElroy to work in the business. If you stop in on a Saturday morning, you will probably see his son, Brantley, the fourth generation McElroy, playing in the dry cleaners! As you can see, when we say we are your hometown cleaners, we mean it!
